VOENA SIGHT-SING!!!
Learn how to read music with your voice!
Sight-reading skills help learning new music become easier, develop leadership to help others, take on a broader range of musical pieces, and be a more versatile musician who is a welcome performer in many more settings. This will exercise your mind and keep you sharp!
“Sight-reading” is the reading and performing of a song in music notation that the performer has not seen before, requiring singers to sing the notated rhythms and pitches that is seen on the page.
You can develop your sight-reading skills in as little as 10 minutes a day by following these simple steps. With a little dedication, in a few short weeks you’ll be able to sight-read multiple pieces of music more and more easily!
- Set a timer for 10 minutes so you won’t be distracted by anything.
- Scan or skim the song example for any trouble spots to get your eye on it ahead of time and to isolate that section for drilling first
- Just like a performance, if you make a mistake while reading, don’t stop!
- Do the 5 drill rule on each and every song example until you can do it easily before moving on
You will get a daily sight-reading posting that you can view and/or download to sight-read with your voice. First, practice a cappella (which means without accompaniment). Then, practice with the accompaniment doing the 5-drill rule I emphasize. The accompaniments are different genres, including world music since VOENA is all about that!!!!!
