Girls Victorian Costuming Requirements
Fall
- All Concert Choir and Creavo level performers must have their own Victorian costuming. Rental costuming is not available at these levels.
- All new costuming must be approved before proceeding. Contact VOENA Costume Director Monique Larre [email protected] or 707-280-0571 before purchasing.
- Do not start your costuming purchases or creations until you have received approval. We can not stress this enough! There have been times in the past where families did not seek approval prior to beginning and ended up having to start over because their purchases were not period or stage correct.
- Clever ways to find dresses and skirts are searching in thrift stores or bridesmaid/flower girl dresses as a base to add trimmings and sashes to.
- If you have a past Victorian costume that you would like to donate or sell to VOENA, please contact Monique with a picture and description.
Girls UNDER age 13 or 5' 4" will need the following:
The skirt part of their dress will need to be mid-calf length so that their pantaloons can be visibly seen underneath their skirts. Although they are period correct, we cannot have hoop skirts for this age group due to performance staging needs (sitting down, standing closely together, etc.) Most hoops are removeable or it's possible to find hoopless petticoats (like this one on Amazon).
Shoes for this age group (girls under 13) should be black matted flats - no shiny leather finish. Heels are reserved for girls over 13 in long dresses.
- A caplet or jacket
- A hoopless petticoat
- Straight leg pantaloons
- White knee socks

This base dress can be found on many VOENA members. Base dresses are a great place to start and then add appropriate trims to make the dress stage ready.
- Victorian dress (examples below) - Fabrics - satin, taffeta, solid or small print. No metallic, pastel, black, or white
- Hooped or hoopless petticoat
- White knee socks - plain white, not cable or off-white, beige etc.
- Black shoes - Matte finish - not shiny, no silver buckles. Shoes can be flat or heel

Girls Hair and Nails
- Hair must be natural color. No colored nail polish.
- Hair can be either curled or braided.
